Marda, you are a quilter, and I a clumsy but becoming prolific one. We both know what kind of effort went into the Grandmother's Flower Garden. Not that I don't love the Dresden Plate quilt, but I'm amazed at the tiny hexagons in the first one, and the beautiful needle work. Women's work has always been under-esteemed, but it never stopped them from putting their heart and soul into it anyway. Those are treasures in every sense of the word. Priceless and wonderful treasures.

Were they pieced by hand?

I have several of Mr. Man's grandmother's quilts...none as artful as these.
Some were hand pieced and others on a trundle machine.

Mr. Man loves to walk down memory lane and find remnants of clothing, curtains, linens, etc. that she used to construct the quilts.

My, what artistry and skill there is in these quilts, not to mention the hour and love.

Those quilts are exquisite! Someone, probably many someones, has taken good care of them over the years.

One of my brothers managed to end up with the quilts made by my grandmother and, when he got divorced, his ex managed to hold on to them. I wonder where they are now, if they are cared for or not, or even just thrown away by now. I would give a lot to have even one of them in my possession. You are lucky, Marda, to possess such treasures.

Marda, the quilts are lovely ...such soft spring-garden colors still amazingly vibrant after all these years. I liked the way you staged them for photos...as they might have been hung out years ago for a little airing. Do be sure to document their approximate age and who made them...so easy for this info to be forgotten. I've seen a small embroidered cloth label lightly tacked to the quiltbacking with the info. I'm so glad you shared your treasures with us. josh
