It's beautiful and interesting. Especially nice since it has family history. Ironic, because it finally ended up in the East, opposite the path of migration.

It is a very nice piece, in fact you have many nice pieces in your home! I love that you have kept it to use in your home. I look at pieces like that and wonder about where all they have been, what they have seen and what will be in the future. Oh if furniture could talk, the stories it could tell!

Lovely and useful too...I love old boxes and containers which can continue to be used. Again, I want to urge that you document its history via tiny label underneath perhaps. My family moved so frequently that we had very few items even from my own childhood , and only photographs of the earlier family. Those of you with family heirlooms are so fortunate...but especally if you also collect antiques, it's best to label those from your own family.

And I want to see the weird handmade jewelry! I love folkart jewelry of papier-mache or bone or horn...watermelon seeds or carved peach pits...lol josh
