Without a door doesn't the floor outside the shower
get wet?

I have a shower curtain and a liner that you don't see and the water doesn't escape it you're careful - however, I believe I will end up getting a door put on, I would really prefer that.

30 inches deep front to back plus a 6 inch deep step and 5 ft wide.

No at all, because it's not that slick slate like you put on roofs - it's kind of unfinished, unprocessed. I'll take a close up of a tile and post it for you, Meldy.
