Sheila, I had to Google "platform rocker" for a look at the mechanism ..I guess I've seen them before but never noticed. Are they somewhat like the metal porch glider in action? I've sat on those but honestly don't remember it well as it was years ago. Somehow I think I prefer the plain rocker, though, for looks as well as the rocking...not to mention no squeaking...LOL Thanks for the pic. josh

The principle is the same as a glider I think. The best part is that the don't tip back and nothing gets its food under the rock to find it crushed when the sitter rocks.

If this didn't squeek I actually like this motion the best.

I'll try one out if I see one but I think my heart is set on the basic rocking chair. Sadly, no pets here to get paws or tail underneath. That doesn't sound right...I meant I miss having cats but poor eyesight makes me afraid of falling...you know how they love to wind themselves around your feet or lay majestically in the doorway and refuse to move as you attempt to step round or over. Darn, I miss them!

Try a little WD-40 on the squeaking parts. josh
