That is beautiful! I've never seen a peacock up close and had no idea its head looked like that. Now I know where the inspiration for Las Vegas showgirl masks' originated!

Quite a few years ago, I had a pair of peafowl, we tried to acclimatize them to our place, but apparently they were not young enough to really bond, so, once released from the cage, they set off on a walk and we never saw them again.
Probably just as well...

He looks so regal even with just a head shot. Not sure if its the cock or the hen, maybe both, who call most, but if you've ever heard their raucous screeches you'd not mistake them for any other creature. We have some in a county park here where they nest in the trees. Many years ago I traded garden books for peacock feathers with a GW member who had a flock...and she sent white ones too. The white tail featers are ethereal looking, lovely but I still admire the normal coloring. Great photo! josh

We had one named George and he was the best pet ever.

He used to fly up on top of the house and warn us if
he saw a strange car coming down our driveway.

He got sick once and I put him in the front seat of my
brand new car to take him to the vet. Needless to say I'm glad it had leather seats.

We loved that wonderful old bird that became a member of our family, I still miss him today.

When I used to stay over at my daughter's farm, I loved to get up very early in the morning, cuppa in hand, and sit on her back porch steps and watch the mist rise as the sun warmed the valley up. You could hear the pea fowl from the dairy farm adjoining. He had a whole flock of them and they set up quite a racket.

I asked the dh if I could get a couple, and he said no. Just like he said no to a sow, and no to the dairy goats. No to another horse and nixed the geese I raised, and found them new homes. He also said no to the chickens, but they happened anyway. LOL.
