Red and Yellow Incense

Just back from Hong Kong (with a b-a-d cold), and instead of writing up a travelogue as usual, decided to show some pictures I took at and around 4 different temples.

The red and yellow spiral incense hangs from the ceiling at Hua Tin Temple in Kowloon. It was built by a family who found a statue of the Goddess of the Ocean. Parts of the building are over 100 yrs. old. The red incense costs $140 HK dollars (ca. $18) because red is the more auspicious color, while the yellow incense costs $130 HK dollars.

Men play mahjong or eat in the temple patio, and, believe it or not, it is quite a busy place.

The photo is large.

I could not wrap my brain around the fact I was looking at incense, even though you'd written that. Intriguing.

Stunning pictures...I've seen smaller versions of these incense coils here in the US in some catalog or other, but they sure don't convey the feeling your photo engenders. Hope you recover quickly from your illness. Thanks for sharing memories of your journey with us. josh
