Summer garden memories for Jan. 8

I had this stick in a new flower bed to mark a spot for a future plant. It were as though these two were meant for each other. Couldn't keep away!

Jim, you have a great eye for pictures.

May I ask what is this little guy? My knowledge both of insects and flowers is lacking. With your help, both will be improved. :>)

The dragonflies hanging about my pond in summer also like to perch on the top of sticks, the on on your photo is a very pretty one, I don't have this variety here

I believe it to be a 'Widow Skimmer' dragonfly. So many of them look similar. With this one, the wings make the ID correct (I hope).

I don't see many dragonflies in my garden, but the ones I have seen have light green wings,

Jim, and Lilo, too, thanks for the information. Guess this 'city girl' hasn't seen too many dragonflies in her life!
