Jim, if you ever go to Bing--we do, just to see the daily picture--try to go, today. Today's picture is a squeaking silk moth--(Rhodinia Fugax) and he's really cute!

I've learned more about 'bugs' since you've been posting your garden memories than I ever thought I'd want to know--but it's all interesting!

Very nice pic. I think you have done a great job in identifying the fly. Considering Wickipedia (sp) says "About 6,000 species in 200 genera have been described. "
On a personal note, if I see one of those flies hoovering in my garden, I'd give it free reign.

One of the good things about this fly is that it is harmless. It is a good pollinator, and has no "stinger" to do anything bad. And, it keeps predators at bay because it appears as though it could be harmful. Their larvae are great at eating harmful aphids in the garden.
