We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.
Orson Welles

There are as many pillows of illusion as flakes in a snow-storm. We wake from one dream into another dream.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

A house must be built on solid foundations if it is to last. The same principle applies to man, otherwise he too will sink back into the soft ground and becomes swallowed up by the world of illusion.
Sai Baba

Your problem is how you are going to spend this one odd and precious life you have been issued. Whether you're going to spend it trying to look good and creating the illusion that you have power over people and circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it and find out the truth about who you are.
Anne Lamott

Who knows what true loneliness is - not the conventional word but the naked terror? To the lonely themselves it wears a mask. The most miserable outcast hugs some memory or some illusion.
Joseph Conrad

People have the illusion that all over the world, all the time, all kinds of fantastic things are happening. When in fact, over most of the world, most of the time, nothing is happening.
David Brinkley

I don't agree with David Brinkley. All you have to do is look at nature - fantastic things happen all the time.

In contrast, the Anne Lamott quote states my outlook on life.

RE: quotes 2 - 19 - 14

I agree with Anneliese on the Anne Lamott quote.
I think David Brinkley's view reflects his Newsman's occupation.

Great ones, Don. Thank you.

RE: quotes 2 - 19 - 14

Great quotes today, Don.
They sure make me think.
I heard a small blurb on tv about a study that said that loneliness "kills", they said that people who feel lonely die sooner than the people who do not feel lonely.

Lol, at Brinkley's quote, It's all about perspective.
