| Trees are the Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven. - Rabindranath Tagore Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree. All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. If you look closely at a tree you'll notice it's knots and dead branches, just like our bodies. What we learn is that beauty and imperfection go together wonderfully. A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease.

| This tree-hugger sure loves the quotes presented by a true tree-guy, very nice, Don! How do you like this oak? Named "The Hangman's tree" in front of Joann's house |
| Don, you and agnespuffin are must be on the same wave length, today. Your quotes are about trees and the picture she posted of the tree (I'm not sure what kind) is incredible. Lilo, do you have any idea why the tree is called "the hangman's tree"? That conjures up some scary images. |

| Mwheel, it's actually sort of a joke. When we purchased the property in the late seventies, undeveloped, this oak was sort of a totem already, not near as tall, but substantial. From the trunk stuck out a dead branch that reminded us of the old Westerns, when the ranchers caught the rustler , sat him on a horse, his neck in the noose, slapped the horse, it took off and he dangled. That dead branch was just about that height, so we named the tree the Hangman's tree. Tree is much taller and the dead branch has fallen off, but the name sticks. |

| Don, great quotes about trees. I share them with DD who lives in tree country, and she says that the quotes hits the spot with her. |
| Lilo, when I wrote "scary images", I was remembering all the Westerns I've seen over the years. Good to know your tree wasn't really used that way. :) |
| Looking forward to seeing your oak someday soon. Must be a tree day for some reason. Say hi to the daughters too. |
