Nice thread to start "spring " sightings.
I'm looking for the first robin. Then comes the house wrens, then comes the Blue Jays, looking for the wrens.
. Hopefully they all show up and life goes on.

We expect the vanguard of the hundred thousands in a couple weeks and isnt that an eerie sound they make. Understand they are considered a prehistoric species

I've never seen nor heard of Sandhill Cranes so I looked it up on the net. And I'll be darned, It says that the cranes spends the winter months in Lodi, CA. That's about 90 miles from us, .but their flight pattern is not over our house.

Quite a few years ago, several hundred Sandhill Cranes made a stop-over here. It was a shock and a major traffic stopper for people traveling down the Farm-To-Market road that ran along our neighbor's field to see the cranes out there enjoying the milo that had fallen on the ground during harvest. I could even hear them at our house which is about 3/4 mile or so (as the crane flies) from his field. I don't know exactly how long they stayed, but I remember the local newspaper had a photo of them in the next day or so. I wish I had taken a picture.

Every year they fly over my house, flock after flock heading north
or south depending on the time of year.
November is the usual time for their journey south.
I think our flocks here winter in Florida.
