Harshness vanished. A sudden softness
has replaced the meadows' wintry grey.
Little rivulets of water changed
their singing accents. Tendernesses

hesitantly reach toward the earth
from space, and country lanes are showing
these unexpected subtle risings
that find expression in the empty trees.
Rainer Marie Rilke

Is this not a perfect description of spring about to appear?

The poem is lovely, Lilo. However, Mother Nature has a weird sense of humor. Last night's news showed pictures of daffodils in the midst of the snow which blanketed parts of VA.

Like the poem, brings memories of childhood spring in Iowa where the seasons were distinct. Southern California not so much, in the 80's yesterday and back to the 60's today with 20 % chance of rain. Here that means clouds and maybe drizzle.

The daffodils are blooming,a couple of bushes show a slight hint of green and the maples have a red sheen, sign of what will come in a week or so.
I always considered Rilke as the most romantic of German poets. Thanks Lilo.

I think of daffodils as a promise of spring.
