I know this has been posted a zillion times and even very recently, but I don't remember how to do italics. Is is (i)italics(i)? Well, if this shows up in the post, I guess I'll know what it is not!

Now I know one thing it is not.

RE: dumb question about italics

this is how you do it....

Just put an i in the brackets before whatever it is you want in italics and then afterwards to make it stop you just put /i in the brackets. So it will look like this, except you use <> where I have ( ).

(i) A big noreaster is headed here and I want to throw up.(/i)

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

I was wondering about this the other day so I'll try it (i) now(/i).

 o
feeling stupid

Oh wait, you use what?

 o
and again

Oh wait, the funny brackets. Okay, trying again now .

 o
success

Yippee.

One day i might even try uploading a picture.

Thanks Pidge for asking about this. I was stupidly allowing myself to remain frozen in some kind of technologically challenged mindset.

You will need to open a photobucket.com account. It's free, and easy, but not free and easy.....

RE: dumb question about italics

bold letters (b) (/b)
underlined words (u) (/u)
words in color ( fontcolor="green") (/font color) you can put any color in there
large words (font size="6") /font size) You can use any number from 1-7

if you want to strike out your words. (s) (/s)

RE: dumb question about italics

could anyone here possibly be talking about (parenthesese) Steve in Baltimore County.

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

not sure what you mean Steve. In explaining HTML code, you have to use ( ) instead of what you really need which is < > .

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

Not really - not if you know (or know where to look up) the special characters. Pidge, the way to make italics is as follows: <i>the word to italicize</i>

I remember playing with HTML here over the years with some amusing results. I think the code in each person's message is "turned off" at the end of the message now, but it didn't always. We'd have threads where the responses went on in boldface or italics or the color green for two or three more posts before someone caught it and did a </>

RE: dumb question about italics

Sigh!! I 've been given all the instructions for using HTML and told to sit down for a day and practice, practice, practice. That sounds like such hard work, when all i want to do is stroll through Garden Web and read online newspapers.
But someday i will, just not today.

RE: dumb question about italics

Okay, I just checked in and I'll try to do all this stuff. Here goes.
(i)hello(/i). (u)I'm fine(/u). (fontcolor="red")How are you?(/fontcolor)
I've always wanted to (s)learn how(/s)know how to strike out words.
(fontsize="6")Okay?(/fontsize)

 o
RE: I really am dumb

Huh? What am I doing wrong? Clearly I am missing some simple step. Help!

 o
RE: try again, pidge

do those same things again, pidge, but use < > instead of ( ).

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

Trying again.
hello. I'm fine. How are you?
I've always wanted to learn how know how to strike out words.
Okay?

Well, I'll be darned, it worked.

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

Yay! Congratulations Pidge. Now can someone tell me why I can do italics but not color?

 o
RE: dumb question about italics

< font color=red> will give you red writing

< font color=blue > will give you the blue hues.

 o

I tried it on Saturday and since it didn't work on the preview I didn't post it so now I can't go back and see what I did wrong. Anyway, it's working now. Thank you.
