I love them! I used to be able to have them in Southern California, they don't grow here in the Northern part, but then I have lilacs, which didn't do well in the Southern part of the state.

I had just once one as a houseplant, but it should have roosted somewhere else. I killed the poor thing.

They grow here in silicon valley. There are some growing in a yard up the street.
DD and GS (age 7) were visiting and I showed him the flower and told him the name, and he giggled. I also told him that when someone sneezes really loud, we'd ask if a bird of paradise flew up his nose. GS looked kind of apprehensive, so I had to explain that the plant would not fly up his nose. lol.
