This pretty shrub (unknown variety) is growing in the lava field on Mt. Etna, Sicily.

Jim, you are amazing, you find some remarkable vegetation no matter where you are, and your captures are so good

Amazing that anything can grow in a lava field. Glad you captured it, jim.
I've been to the lava fields in Hawaii, and nothing was growing there. I saw the foot prints of the people that were running for their lives.

Here is some more flora type stuff. Of course, this is newer (and very common on Etna).

I agree about stuff not growing on other volcanoes, we were on Mauna Kea and Haleakala in Hawaii. Mt. Tiede in Canary Islands was mostly barren, too. However, we were at an drive-in volcano in St. Lucia (Caribbean) and there was stuff growing all over the place.
