A long cruise - introduction, part 2

We checked out our cabin and dropped off our bags with medications and stuff. The rest of the luggage was left with porters on the pier and will be brought to our cabin (never could bring myself to refer to it as a stateroom). Generally that will be done before the magical time of sail-away.

It is time to explore the ship a bit. We were on a 'sister' ship, Statendam, earlier in the year so not much new to see. Since this is a smaller ship, it will be easy to get around. A comment was made yesterday about the mega-ships - some will carry 6,000+ passengers plus the crew.

Oops, it is less than an hour to sail-away and we will be required to attend the "muster drill" on the promenade deck. This is a drill to ensure that all passengers know where to go in case a problem might arise that would necessitate leaving the ship in the life boats. Each cruise line has its way of operating this drill, but it is a Coast Guard requirement. They will check attendance, if you don't show the cruise line might not let you leave with the ship.

This is a shot of the promenade deck. On sea days it is a great place to nap - oops read a book!
