A long cruise - another day at sea.

Here are some of the options for a day at sea as we cross the Atlantic (tomorrow, we will be in the Canary Islands):
7:30 a.m. Aerobics
9:00 a.m. Indoor cycling (additional fee)
10:00 a.m. Mahjong Players Meet
10:30 a.m. Maasdam Olympics
11:00 a.m. Making salsa
12:00 noon Team Trivia

OK, I'll pause here to cover a couple of these options. Maasdam has a culinary arts center. A decent sized auditorium with a stage and one of those over the chef mirrors. On sea days, there is some sort of demo, and there might even be two of them. In the evening, that venue is used for movies or other things.
Team Trivia is a Big Event on this kind of itinerary. It is held in the Crow's Next because there is lots of room there. Teams cannot be more than 6, nor less than 1. 20 questions, with some receiving extra points. I went a couple of times to participate, but mostly I sat off to the side and silently played with I pretended to read a book. I never counted, but my best estimate is that there were more than 30 teams involved. Team Trivia was held every day, including days in port. Holland America used to give away prizes for first place, but discontinued that several years ago. Now, all you get is a round of applause!
The Olympics were an interesting activity. There might be a ring toss, or nerf shooting, or whatever. There were about 20 diehards who attended this, at sea only, event. When I took this picture, they were putting for a score. Not too difficult for some situations, however we were cruising at 20 knots on a rolling ship - not as easy as on land.

Continuing with the list of activities from November 4:
1:00 p.m. Dancing with the Stars at Sea: The Samba
2:00 p.m. Guest speaker, Dr. Paul Brown, talked about "The Spanish Armada"
3:00 p.m. Tea time in one of the formal dining rooms
3:30 p.m. Scattegories (in the Crow's Nest)
4:00 p.m. Friends of Bill W meet (every day on every ship I have ever been on)
4:00 p.m. Bingo
6:00 p.m. Pub Trivia in the Mix, not more than 20 people

The Spa Special for today: GoSMILE teeth whitening for only $149 (usually $199) for 30 minutes.

More options:
7:30 p.m. Variety show in the Showroom at Sea (with seating for about 500)
9:00 p.m. Name that Tune in the piano bar
9:00 p.m. Swing Dance Hour in the Crow's Nest
10:30 p.m. 50s and 60s music in the Crows' Nest
11:00 p.m. All Request in the Crow's Nest

The movie in the theatre for today is "Now You See Me" at 1:00, 7:00 and 9:15 p.m. Free popcorn (itty bitty servings).

On sea days, there is an art "auction". Everything has a minimum and less than 5% of the time is anything actually sold.
The retail shops on board have a sale every day the ship is not in port (shops and the casino are closed when the ship is in port). There are ship's photographers and they have a casual portrait session every day, and formal photos on select days.

Or, near the pool, you can take a turn at this - chess or ping pong (there are other ping pong tables in a more enclosed area).

No picture on this next option - a nap. In your cabin or on the open deck, next to a pool or on the outside promenade deck. Lots and lots of nap-taking on any cruise I have even been on!
