A long cruise - Tenerife, Canary Islands part 1

Santa Cruz is one of the co-capitals of the Canary Islands. The islands have a long history of being a part of Spain. We are due to arrive at noon, with sail-away scheduled for 11:00 p.m.

Santa Cruz has a mild climate, with an approximate mean temperature of 70Ã¯Â¿Â½ with less than 8.5" of rain each year, which makes this area a great tourist destination. The Hop-On, Hop-Off bus allows a visitor to be able to see the city at a reasonable cost. Buy your tickets online for a savings. As in all of Spain, the Euro is the currency and Euros can be obtained at most ATMs, with only a nominal transaction fee.

This is Igueste de San Andres, with only one road into the hamlet. This was one of the first views of the islands and how the people live. Yep, it is remote.

Near this area, the land ranges from 31 to 823 meters. This village is a few kilometers closer to Santa Cruz.

As we are about to tie to the pier, I could get a better view of some of the house in Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz has a population of over 220,000. Fishing is still one of the primary industries in the Canary Islands (along with tourism).

As I did some reading about Santa Cruz de Tenerife, I discovered that their pre-Lenten "Carnivale" is second in size only to the famous one in Rio de Janeiro. I don't know how they measure that, as there are several other cities who also like to claim that distinction.

My late brother and his family took several vacations outside of Santa Cruz at the house of a friend. They loved it there.
