Mums-what I found out.

For years I've been buying mums for fall color. then when they quit blooming I tossed them.
Last year I bought 3 potted mums (again), planted them in a spot in my garden, they looked so nice, then they died. Or so I thought, come spring small shoots came up, and now they are orbs with tons of buds.
What a surprise, I looked up mums and found out that they are perennials in my neck of the woods (zone 10).
There is always something to learn from plants.

I have had mums in zone 5 for several years, then all of a sudden they don't make it. I have never figured whether it is the weather or what.

Sometimes I find out what works in my area because I didn't do anything -- didn't throw out the pot, didn't water, didn't cover in the winter. And when I realize how awesome that plant is because of nothing that I did, then it becomes a quick favorite.

Glad you found out about mums -- they are definitely a keeper if you have space for them in the yard.
