“If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day.”

― W. Beran Wolfe

We need periods of being by ourselves--alone. Sometimes a
fortnight or even a week will do wonders for one, unless
he or she has drawn too heavily on the account. The simple
custom, moreover, of taking an hour, or even a half hour,
alone in the quiet, in the midst of the daily routine of life,
would be the source of inestimable gain for countless numbers.

Ralph Waldo Trine

Sufficient it is to know that the way we lived our yesterday
has determined for us our today. And, again, when the
morning with its fresh beginning comes, all tomorrows should
be tomorrows, with which we have nothing to do. Sufficient
to know that the way we live our today determines our tomorrow.

Ralph Waldo Trine

All are good, I particularly like the second one. I do spent a while every evening just to sit, doing nothing at all, floating on the stream of consciousness - refreshing!

The second quote is it for me too. Even as little kid I needed a time by myself and now it is my early morning walk when I rarely see anybody and sitting in the backyard with only the birds and squirrels as company.

Looking at the W. Beran Wolfe quote. No mention of the wife.
