Alhambra - designated (along with Generalife Gardens) as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Originally built as a small fortress in the 10th century, it fell into disuse until the 11th century, when more was added to become a series of buildings. In 1333 it became a Royal Palace.
There were many additions and changes through the years, but again in fell into disrepair until being rediscovered in the 18th century.
This is a somewhat decent view of the property, as seen from the Generalife Gardens.
