I was amazed to see so many wind turbines in Spain. Our tour guide told us that wind is their primary source of power, followed by solar and then coal/gas, with only a small percentage from water.

It was obvious to me, as we passed along, that no one was at home.

Speaking of homes, there was one stretch of highway where we saw many homes cut from the stone of the mountains. Moving along at the speed we were going, it was difficult to get a decent shot. This was the best one.

I asked about agriculture in the southeast part of Spain and was told the Almond and Olive trees were the primary fruit trees. Our guide, Debbie, told us that Spain grows more olives than Italy; and that most of the olives are exported to Italy for the making of olive oil. I could not figure out what they didn't just make the olive oil in Spain and push Italy out of the picture.

Grapes are also a big crop, but most of the grape growing region is farther north. As we rode along we saw many hectares of farmland such as this completely used for Olive and Almond trees.

it was a bit surprising to me the amount of space there is between rows of the olive trees.

Olive trees have a quite large root system and since they grow very old (centuries, some rivaling redwood trees) they need space, but then there should be more space between the trees in one line too. Hmm - I don't know an olive expert from Spain, Anybody out there who knows?

Probably need room for a mechanical olive picker. We also have them for grapes and cherries here in CA.

That machine appears to be one of those tree shaker things. Put a net under the tree and use mechanical force to shake all the olives off. We were not there at harvest time, so I cannot report anything else.
