A long cruise - Arrecife, Canary Islands - part 1

Arrecife is on the volcanic island of Lanzarote, our last stop in the Canary Islands. The history of the island has to do with merchant trading as its location in the Atlantic made it a primary stopping point between Europe and Africa, for ships on their way to the Americas.
It was, and still is, a fishing port. Because of the climate, it (like the rest of the Canary Islands) is a big tourist draw, primarily from Europe.
This is a photo of Arrecife, the island's capitol, as we make our approach for a planned 8:00 a.m. arrival. The Grand Hotel Arrecife is the tallest structure on the island, 17 floors (with more suites than standard rooms).
