There have been only minor repairs to the structure after it was completed in 1929. Thisis one of the the entrances to the 'sun' seats.

The designer (or architect) was Gaspar Bennazar (I've seen his last name spelled different ways) modeled it after the Collesseum in Rome.

The official seating capacity is 11,620. That includes the 'sun' and 'shade' seating.

Recently, it has been used for music performances. Generally those occur during the winter months when it is too cool on the European mainland.

I was somewhat low in the seating area when I took this picture of Cruise Critic friend Budd as he strolled into the ring.

Speaking of seating, this is what the patrons have. I would guess that a cushion would be appropriate.

Notice the hole for drainage of the rain. They would not be used much as the total rain for the year is about 16 inches only. I get that in the spring in central Illinois!

I went into the ring to see what it would be like as one might be there with a bull.

I tried to get a photo from high up to include the entire ring (145' across), but it wasn't going to happen. When I looked up some facts online, I noticed that the only way to get a decent photo would be from a helicopter.

Since a venue like this would host many events, a concession stand would be appropriate. I could not determine (and the tour guide did not know) when this was installed.
