A long cruise - Valencia, Spain - part 2

The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia is one of the most amazing architectural group of structures that I have ever seen. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candella, it was built on the end of the river Turia, which has been rerouted (previously flooding was horrible).

This is a view of L'Hemisferic and El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia on a wonderful Monday morning.

L'Hemisferic has an IMax theatre and planetarium. It was the first building completed, in 1998. It is said that the acoustics within the building are so fine that two people standing on opposite ends can engage in conversation without raising their voices.

El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia is the opera house and performing arts center. It has four large performance venues.

This building is the El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe, Museum of Science (3 floors). Surprisingly the ground floor is taken up with basketball courts! I looked at the Web site and they have some marvelous exhibitions.

The building in the background is L'Àgora . It is a covered, open-air meeting place.

An outdoor cafeteria makes it convenient for visitors. There is a larger one inside the Science Museum.

This is the space above the parking garage, L'Umbracle. It is an outdoor art gallery with lots and lots of plants.

A closer view of the shapes of the Science Museum.

Returning to the City of Arts and Sciences is extremely high on my bucket list. We were there only 30 minutes or so and did not go into any buildings. I gotta get there.

What a wonderful complex, looks as though one could spend days there to experience it all.
I like the contrast between the very old, such as the Alhambra and the modern, which perhaps sometime in the future will be the very old.

These are the vents from the garage. They look cool and probably get the job done.
