Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.
Buddha

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.
Havelock Ellis

Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you tense muscles, a headache and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth. Forgiveness gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.
Joan Lunden

People try to keep their past, like kind of holding on to their past. Every Springsteen song talks about that.
John Cusack

I'm not sure I always feel like I'm in the seat. Sometimes I'm only holding on by one hand and flying out behind the roller coaster. I don't know anybody who doesn't feel that way.
David Morse

Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.
George S. Patton

"In The Air Tonight"
PHIL COLLINS

I can feel it coming in the air tonight

Hold on

I've been waiting for this moment

For all my life

Hold on

Can you feel it coming in the air tonight

Hold on

Hold on

Well if you told me you were drowning

I would not lend a hand

I've seen your face before my friend

But I don't know if you know who I am

well I was there and I saw what you did

saw it with my own two eyes

so you can wipe off that grin

I know where you've been

It's all been a pack of lies

I can feel it coming in the air tonight

Hold on

I've been waiting for this moment

For all my life

Hold on

Repeat

Well I remember

I remember

Don't worry

How could I ever forget

It was the first time

The last time we ever met

But I know the reason

Why you keep this silence up

No you don't fool me

Well the hurt doesn't show

But the pain still grows

It's no stranger to you and me

I can feel it coming in the air tonight

Hold on

I've been waiting for this moment

For all my life

Hold on

I can feel it in the air tonight

Hold on

I've been waiting for this moment

For all my life

Hold on

Holding on here, waiting for the temp to drop, and it will before I turn into jerky. I like today's quotes telling me that things are not as bad and are getting better,

Don, I read the quotes early this morning and was going to post then, but wanted to think about them, some more.

They all are meaningful, but I'm not sure I understand what Phil Collins is saying. Is it uplifting or depressing--or as with most things, is it all in one's perception? When he says "if you told me you were drowning, I wouldn't lend a hand, or "I saw what you did . . . . and it's all a pack of lies", I'm confused. Can you help me understand?

All I have been doing is posting quotes based on a word or phrase that I could relate to a song from my experience in life. Then add the song lyrics and a Utube of that song following a pattern in the quotes or viceversa. it has been fun and a learning thing. Actually the lyrics to this one can be "Hold on" or "Oh Lord" according to different lyrics sites. I tend to hear "Hold on" but then listening closer to different recordings "Oh Lord comes through too.

From Phill himself...

"Collins wrote the song in the wake of a failing relationship with his wife. Collins has described obtaining the drum machine specifically to deal with these personal issues through songwriting, telling Mix magazine: "I had to start writing some of this music that was inside me."[2] He improvised the lyrics during a songwriting session in the studio: “I was just fooling around. I got these chords that I liked, so I turned the mic on and started singing. The lyrics you hear are what I wrote spontaneously. That frightens me a bit, but I'm quite proud of the fact that I sang 99.9 percent of those lyrics spontaneously."[3]

The way I see it, is that we need a balance.
