Can miles truly separate you from friends... If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there?
Richard Bach

Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't.
Richard Bach

Don't be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends.
Richard Bach

Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years.
Richard Bach

True love stories never have endings.
Richard Bach

Simon And Garfunkel
Old Friends

Old friends, old friends sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blowin' through the grass
Falls on the round toes of the high shoes of the old friends

Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends, memory brushes the same years, silently sharing the same fears

Time it was and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you

Quote #2 brings to mind--for me, anyway--a variation on what Richard Bach said: my thought is, "If you woke up this morning, God has something for you to do, today".
I try to remember that when I groan as I roll out of bed.

Re: the Simon-Garfunkel line: "How terribly strange to be 70", -- how much terribly stranger is it to be 81?! But, since I awoke, this morning, God has something for me to do, today.

Lovely to have friends, and I have many: old ones, new ones and "imaginary" ones - seventy? I remember that :)

I too had to smile at the seventy, was a while ago. Very good quotes.

I like this one: " Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends ".
