One day at a time

Apparently, one of us is going crazy. Or we're just aging. I remember mom going to rehab when I was 12, three months before my 13th birthday. She says it was a year later. Too bad I don't know how many days it's been because that's really all that matters. Because she may not make it to another "year". Probably. I'm not worried even one little bit. That's just the premise of AA's saying. You're only supposed to worry about today. Sad, we're both too old to remember it right. HA!

It was on this date 9 years ago that a new chapter began in my life. PAIN!

I had my right hip replaced on this date. As my body was positioned on the table, a nerve got 'impinged' and has created constant pain since that morning.

I have been seen by 4 pain specialist doctors and one medical doctor originally from China, who tried acupuncture, none worked. I tried chiropractic and big-time massage. Nothing helped. Most of those providers told me that it will dissipate with time. Ha! 9 years is a long time and I don't see any end.

I worry about today. But, I have confidence that tomorrow will be the same. It has been the same since this date 9 years ago.

rob, memory can be a fickle thing, no matter what age you are and in a way it does not matter. Split the difference and go on from there. Congrats to your mom for going to rehab I'm glad you and your mom are still connected.

Oh Jim, I'm so sorry that you have had to endure that pain for 9 years! Have you checked with a neurosurgeon as to the possibility of having the sensory nerve that is impinged clipped?

(((Jim))) time does matter for you!

I do agree, it really doesn't matter and we're both laughing at our poor memories! Ha! I really am so glad even if it had only been 34 days instead od almost 34 years.

Robb, sombody shifts my yearly annals around on a regular basis, so don't worrry about it.

Jim, sorry that you have this problem. I was about to ask the same as gmatx.

Oh Jim, chronic pain is a burden, I admire your spunk, traveling and recording your travels and all the wonderful gardening you do, it is quite an accomplishment.
Rob, I agree with everyone - the decision to go into rehab is the important part - the exact time doesn't matter so much IMHO

My older sister was an alcoholic. My parents got her into an in-patient situation in the Phoenix area. Twice she had weekend passes and twice she failed a urine test when she returned. Twice she was booted out. It was a huge disappointment for my folks. She blamed them for her situation!

One night, she got up to use the the toilet. She was drunk, fell and hit her head on the side of the bathroom sink. She bled to death as her husband continued to sleep.

Going into rehab voluntarily is a big step for people with addictions. Being forced into it does not always work.

Even with rehab Jim, the relapse rate is still really high. It's not a magic bullet. I hope you can remember the good and her determination to at least try. I am dearly sorry for your loss of her nonetheless. My best work friend is struggling with her son. He refuses to go, choosing to go back to living with someone who beats him. Even broken his back. I only see him dying from this cause he chooses only this.
