Well, I have a septic system and don't use any caustic toilet cleaners, I use Seventh Generation cleaners, they are peroxide based and do a fine job, never, in all the 30+ years, did I have my tank pumped and it works fine. I think it is a goo d thing to use the least corrosive and toxic products for the public sewer system too, in the long run it's environmentally beneficial.

lilo, you sure seem to be doing something right with your septic tank.
Now, I have to change my ways with my toilet bowl cleaner.

As a lifelong apartment and condo dweller, I will tell you that products like Liquid Plumr are strongly discouraged, and sometimes even forbidden. They clear out the clogs and THEN they continue eating through old, often-rusty pipes as well.

Instead we are encouraged to use plain old bleach to clear the clogs.

As far as cleaning, I'm with Lilo on the use of Seventh Generation products. The less invasive, the better. In all things.

I'm on the hunt for "Seventh Generation " products. Especially toilet cleaner. It is not easy to find in stores, they are available on the net, but the shipping cost is very high. and it makes the product very expensive.
Where do you all buy the product?

It is available in Health Food Stores, our local market carries it but it's more pricy there than in the Health Food Stores, one uses so little. I'm not sure about toilet cleaner, I use a shower cleaner for all bathroom cleaning, works well.

west gardener, sometimes you can find Seventh Generation products at Grocery Outlet. If I remember your location correctly, you should have one of those nearby. Otherwise you can try Whole Foods or possibly Fresh 'n' Easy.

Another reason I like Seventh Generation: their products are cruelty-free. Never tested on animals!
