Howdy troops!

Sorry 'bout the long vanishing act, I had a major stroke. Some of you remember me as "the Rev.", hopefully I won't get teacupped out of hand!

I don't know where to begin. Two years in a nursing home with absolutely nothing to do and very little communication allowed was a great trial to endure. Thankfully I escaped!

It has been a shock to have seen what a huge difference two years has made in just this local city near where I had my house and lab for 34 years. Talk about a frog dropped in a pot of hot water...

Got lots more, best to see if I'm allowed back on GW first! Typing left-handed is kinda slow!

    I can't imagine what you've been through.

Very glad you have recovered well enough to leave the nursing home.

It's great that you can type, whichever hand you need to use.

I'm looking forward to hearing more -- stay well!

Welcome back. I surely remember you - enough that I wondered what happened to you yesterday evening. You and Dickens and a couple of others we have not seen in a long time. If that is not a coincidence.
Sorry that you such a massive stroke and glad that you can join us again.
Take good care of yourself and stick around, have not had any teacups around in a long time.

What a great surprise to see you! Wonderful that you recovered from such a serious stroke, of course, you always were determined to get what you want out of life, happy to see you back!
It's been kinda slow around the party, but we try to hang on!

    My friend---my friend!!!!

I'd almost given up on ever seeing you again!
    --I figured you'd,

A: Found a Pirate ship and sailed away,

B: Found an old Caddy convertible and driven off,
looking for Thelma OR Louise, either one..

or, C: was stuck in a nursing home or jail after one too many moonlight treks in the swamp.

From the sound of you, you sound clean-shaven and in a healthy state of mind and body. Good for you!

Welcome back----none of us could have ever forgotten you!
(You have been prayed for many times.)

Welcome back! It's great to hear from you after the long time away.

Sorry about the stroke, but it sounds as though you've made a striking recovery. I've often wondered why so many nursing homes act as though having a small piece of one's brain go splibt means the whole thing has gone non-functional... well, at least your past life gave you plenty to think about while lying there :)

As you feel like it, let us know what you think about today's world.

I don't know what to say! Ya'll are too kind. Meldy, what you said about 'nursing homes' is just plain miserable. Truth be known, most of folk began their 'golden years' in such a facility as nothing other than old people whose 'dearly loving' relatives wanted them out of the way. The 'state' pays those in charge of such outfits as I was cursed to be in $89,425 per year for a basic 9' x 12' room plus a roommate with the same and the fees START from there. Typically, $200,000 each. It can be higher. Welcome to socialised 'medicine'. Want some true horror stories?

KJ, how about Thelma AND Louise?! Heck, things might not work anymore but what the heck!

I'm just getting started, got to get used to having internet again! Too many stories to tell (some might even be true ;o)), too slow typing speed.

I just came back on today after a very lengthy absence myself....aka = wandaredhead

I have certainly wondered about you. So sorry to hear about the stroke. Great to know you've escaped. I'm sure the nursing home also has lots of stories to tell now. ;)

OTOH, Rev - we are glad you have brought yourself back to
being able to do some of what you love to do...

And to have survived 2 years in a nursing home is, indeed, a blessing... but a moment of gratitude here...

    What was the option?

I want every moment of your life now to be full of happiness, contentment, good food, good health, and something that drags you out of bed every day because you love to do it.

I am most pleased that you have been nursed back to a level of self sufficiency.

If I was a puppy, I would be wagging all over! This post was my first for two years, kinda scary. It wasn't!

Dorph, I hear you've had some problems. Not too sure what, takes a while to sort through. My present internet is wifi from Home Depot to my tiny Acer laptop via a borrowed antenna/xcvr a good friend set up for me (a GOOD friend!) that is kind of similar to slow dialup.

Anyway, the telescope you gave me to give to Damien was truly appreciated. He, his mother, step-father, three German Shepards, one Husky/wolf, one Chow, another that was pure-bred Heinz 57, and I spent one particularly fine evening with the scope observing LEO sats. No, the dawgs didn't. Jimmy, the step-dad, and I kept the critters far enough away to allow space for Damien to enjoy! ..one of many nights.. When Damien went off to collage in MN, he knew to pass the scope to someone that enjoyed it as much as himself. Just thought to ought to know..

shilty, your question, "what was the option?", is quite clear. I spent three days after my stroke(s) alone. Strokes are inwardly painless. Thirst I recall. Someday I'll elaborate. My option was clear and it was't my time yet!

At one letter per two seconds and Home Depot due to hijack this 'puter any moment, I better quit for the moment! Not done by a long shot..

    Talk about a reunion.
Rev, Wanda and Michael at one time.

Rev. if we had known where you were, you wouldn't have been alone for long. I have been worried about you my swamp buddy.
Seeing you back here and knowing you are still around makes me
    happy.

You, Michael and Wanda stay here now that you are back.

I've been through a bout of melanoma. I'm cancer free but treatment came with a price. Devil's decision and so on.

  • GulfportGail

Oh, Michael. I am so sorry to hear that but glad you are now cancer free. My brother had melanoma...I understand the price.

Michael, I too, am very sorry about the melanoma, but am happy for you that things have taken a turn for the better!

I hope you can still sail and feel free again out on the water.

I'm picking up a new (for me anyway) boat this Saturday. It's a 1969 Cal 20. It's a fixer upper but the boat is basically sound and the work with be cosmetic. It's a good project.

Well, well, well! Phew Michael[the rev one], ya scared me. When you dropped off so suddenly I thought ya fell in a vat of bug juice!! So sorry it's been such a rough couple of years but oh so glad you're on the mend. You can email me through here, but for now, sounds like your posts here will do me just fine. Welcome back good dude.

Glad to see you too Dorph. My Christy had a melanoma on her nose about 15 yrs ago. After dealing with it, she's been good since. It's hard living in the south with all that sun on ya, plus you on the water.

Wanda Gail! So nice to have you here again too. Sure miss your great disposition and posts as well as pics of the ponds. Welcome back!!

Rev, is there a Starbucks near you and do you have a way to get there? If so, grab your Acer and get thee to a latte! Free wifi. Plus free outlets so you can plug in a stay for as long as you want to sit there. All for the cost of a cup of coffee (about $1.60-$2.00).

Karen, who is currently plugged in at her local SBUX

Rev and all, you can go to Mountain View, CA, the whole town is wired for free " wifi". It was wired by Google for free use. You can sit on a park bench with your puter, get some sunshine and get on the net.
But nothing is "free". Who knows what info they are collecting with their "free" wifi? I don't use it.

    Rev!!!!

Holy bloody cow man! Lindac sent me the link to this thread, and well, I could not stay away. I'm so sorry to hear about your stroke and subsequent two year loss of time but dude, you don't sound as if you've missed a step at least in text on a screen.

I'm still LindaC's irREVerent wiseass son (apple doth not falleth far from tree), still makin' beer when I have time, still living in Sweet Home Chicago, still workin in the Internet world and having fun.

You just might be the one who gets me back here!

Our world just got a little more colorful again. Man, glad to see you are back and still the man!
