A gardening quote

I just 'discovered' this on-line and thought that I would share with you:

Everyone must leave something behind when he dies... A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there.
It doesn't matter what you do... so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching... The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.

Ray Bradbury in Fahrenheit 451

RE: A gardening quote

As I put the garden to bed for the winter, I think about Murphy's law (or is it someone else's)? It decrees that the next people to occupy this space will not want to spend their time keeping it up and instead will have a lawn here. But some day, long after I'm gone, my daughter will say to my son, "Remember the vegetables and the beautiful flowers in Mom's garden"?

A friend will visit her garden one day and ask where she got that lovely plant and Claudia will share the seeds - life will go on - and we have planted beauty.

Thanks, Jim. The Kitchen Table, I know, b/c I go there, too. It's a busy place, with lots of posters. In fact, I even venture to Hot Topics when I'm feeling brave. I only lurk there, though. Some of those folks sound tough! :>)
