She is not pretty during heno-pause, but she has a huge advantage over human "pause". she gets back to her old self after the pause.

I remember this from our chickens, but your hen must really want a new outfit. Love your heno-pause.

Jim, they molt regardless, new feathers twice yearly, you don't want to wear your old, shabby clothes all the time, do you? LOL
Anneliese, she is going to an extreme, the others are not so plucked, notice her fuzzy butt has gone also. Sh's grumpy about the whole thing, suppose growing new feathers itches?

Lilosophie, I have always heard that chickens molt once per year, typically in response to daylength. Most molt as nights become longer.

I'm interested....is what I've heard and read not accurate? Do you change what you feed them during this time?

Poor thing, you can't help but feel sympathetic for her. I'd think that growing a new crop of feathers would be very stressful and uncomfortable.

Guess I'm more of a 'city girl' than I thought. Even at my advanced age, I never knew chickens molted.
