Just a gentle look at our modern society using rose tinted glasses
Nowadays we are inundated with electronic aids from wrist watches that not only tell us the time, the day, the week, the month, and just in case we have lost track, the year, and possibly which century we are in.
We have satellite navigation equipment, that tells us where we are, and if we get fed up of being there, how to go somewhere else!
We have computers that tell us if our heart is still beating, and when we are due to have a heart attack, which is where the satellite navigation comes in handy, as it will tell us the location of the nearest Hospital, Mortuary, or even, if you leave it late to scream for help, the nearest graveyard.
We can walk along a street, and watch the latest movie, or listen to some music, or talk to a friend, where once again the satellite navigation system comes in handy, as it will at least tell you where that bus you did not see, ran over you, as you were too busy watching that movie, listening to that song, or talking to a friend, who at least heard your last words, even if the they were only ouch!
Nowadays, these electronic aids are taking over our lives, and we obey their every instruction, which explains why drivers using satellite navigation systems, turn left when told to do so by the nice voice on the sat-nav, and find themselves driving into a canal, through a farmers cow shed, [much to the surprise of the farmer and his cows], or over a cliff!
Are we the masters of these electronic aids, or are we their slaves?
I wonder!
Alfred Nestor
