What I have noticed about hotel vs inn, is in the food service. A hotel generally has one or more restaurants but an inn has prepaid meals at specific times. Let's say breakfast from 7-9 am and there are few or any choices.
I much prefer a hotel that has both restaurants and room service.

I agree, generally, but the term "hotel" or "inn" do not carry any assumed amenities regarding food or restaurants. Many inns are just motels.
