Waiting for the robins

Soon they will show up and make short shrift of the pyracantha berries. Last year there were only a few birds, and they didn't stay, because we had scant rain and there were no earthworms for easy picking.

Here I am! YOou don't mean me? Kidding. Great looking berry picture! Do they wait to eat them once they're good and fermented, or do they let some fall to the ground and let the squirrels have those?

;)

Robin, we don't have that kind of squirrel here, ours are just tree-dwelling, eating pine-nuts - along with the robins there are jays and blackbirds and other opportunists gorging on the berries, the robins also hunt earthworms once the rains have softened the soil.

The color of those berries is gorgeous; but the thorns can be wicked! I didn't know robins ate pyracantha berries; they don't like the berries on our nandina bushes, which are also colorful, but not as pretty as those in your picture, Lilo.

Very pretty picture of the berries, I also can't wait for spring again, but then I'll be another year older. Wishing my life away, its going fast enought.
