Came across this one in the latest catalog from Newark Dressmakers. Have you read it? I remember that you were doing, or going to do, some alterations.

I just went to their website to check the number and must say it (the site) has been greatly improved! ND is sibling to Home-Sew, and while I like their catalogs, previous websites were, ah, requiring of patience. If you don't already deal with either company, do get a catalog because it usually has a coupon for a couple dollars off their already reasonable S&H.

Ran out of interfacing yesterday, needing a piece 4"x 4"; so went over to Joanne's which is nearest fabric store nowadays. $2.79 yd. Kicked myself when I priced same stuff in ND catalog @ 1.95 yd. Y'know? I could have waited & ordered it!

Here is a link that might be useful: Altering

Thanks meldy! I don't do "electronic" over the weekend, so I am just now seeing this. I did try to alter a dress this past summer and I got about 1/3 of the way through and quit. HA! I am trying, but sometimes life gets too busy (they're selling (sold/?) the house in which I live, so it was time to tidy rather than time to spread out and make messes. It was a halter dress, so if I pick it back up, I might get done for next summer. I'm really afraid of altering my next project, a lined jacket. UGH! Terrified would be a better word. I better do muslin first. I'll check those companies out.

So what are you making? My very dear friend who comes up from Florida every year has just bought the fabric for and is beginning a civil war quit. It's very involved as one of those things one did to keep their mind off of every being gone, whiling away the time until they returned. I doubt it'll take her four years to finish her quit!

I honestly don't like altering, although I made a nice little bit of money doing so during a rather moneyless period of my life. It still amazes me that people will pay well for a little needlework. Check ND's book section, they also have one on fitting all shapes- just keep in mind that their idea of intermediate may be more like our idea of advanced-level skill. Definitely get fitted in muslin before attempting more than sleeve length on that jacket; being lined will double the work needed.

I'm quilting at the moment. After more or less putting it aside for most of last year, I'm finally at the binding stage. A queen-size bedspread for GS. Sigh, if one lets 30 years pass between quilting projects, one shouldn't jump into something as big as that! Actually, the only problem I ran into was simply that I can't get down and crawl on the floor, thus spreading it flat to pre-baste the sandwich was a major problem. Love that new-fangled basting spray :))

Is your friend doing the album type? or working with one of the designs popular at that time? She's probably going to hand-stitch the whole thing, but I like the fact that sewing machines were fairly common then, and stitch a whole lot faster.

RE: Rob

I'm fairly certain she's only copying the design and mimicking the colors, not sewing by hand.

:)

Here's the quilt that inspired her.

Is that "drunkard's path"....or something similar?

RE: Rob

I actually don't know. She's the "quilt nerd" (meant in the most endearing way possible!) and I didn't ask. She mostly told me that it was a more involved pattern to make it more time consuming. I can't imagine it being more involved than a postage-stamp quilt, which she made for mommy a couple of years ago. The entire quilt is the same size as those white squares! Oy. I'll ask her when I speak to her again.

RE: Rob

Well, she's already found me (election talk).

It's called High Cotton.
