Vanderbilt Medical has made it easy to shop now.
I think it's a great idea. Do you?

Here is a link that might be useful: Good idea or not??

RE: Good idea or not??

This one is close to home to me both as a Vanderbilt employee and as a Nashvillean. 100 Oaks was THE place to go when I was a little girl and I lived on that side of town. It was where you could go to the two story Woolworth's and ride the escalator, or see the carousel horse they brought from downtown and put in the Harvey's window. Not to mention, you could go downstairs and talk to the talking Christmas tree! When Harvey's left downtown, 100 Oaks took up some of the slack. 100 Oaks fell into disrepair and despair about 15-20 years ago and it saddened me greatly. I think drawing people back to it has, and will continue to, revitalized it greatly.

But as an employee it really hit home to me when we had the state of the medical center seminar. Our goal is to make it so that people of our community live better and longer lives. With the 100 Oaks clincs, there is little to no wait time to get a mammogram. To be able to shop, stop in and obtain a test that could save your life, to make that easier, was just mind boggling. Even if it only brought in one person. But it's integral to the area, easily passed by on your way to many things, and making something like that easier will surely save many many lives. Now mind you, it's weird sitting in a chair where, what was, the center of the mall with no Harvey's is alienating, but I'm very thankful it's there.

Obviously, I think it's a good idea, even if the side effect is shopping!

It's a terrific idea. When I was going through chemotherapy, the whole ordeal took about 8 hours from beginning to end and for the first several hours I had a pager and it was great. We could walk the gardens,go to one of several places to eat on the grounds, the library or over to where the computers were. When they ready for you to begin, they'd just beep. It was great. Shopping would have been way better though.

I don't think it is a good idea at all. I just want to set up an appointment with my medical provider, get in and out.

Since I'd rather have root canals than go to our mall, LOL, the shopping experience wouldn't be much of a lure. That being said, there is one concept we had here for awhile and I thought it was a smashing idea. There were a general practitioner and also a dentist...both accepting walk-in clients at the mall and they were open extended hours. Our county is the medical hub for about seven Appalachian counties, and there are volumes of all sorts of practioners, but if you need in to see one quickly you are out of luck.

Having first come-first serve clinics in high traffic areas, open with the kind of hours real people work is a God-send and a money-saver for individuals as well as insurance companies. It meant one less trip to an E.R. or urgent care center for something simple like a dog bite or an infected cut.

Both of them shut up shop after several years, and that's ashamed. Our mall does have a satellite facility of the hospital, for certain tests and procedures. As far as waiting for be seen, unless it's some sort of unusual test or procedure........ a patient shouldn't have enough time to shop before being called. But, anything beats a waiting room and sick people everywhere and television running with drivel on.
