I found the right shape!

| I knew I wasn't crazy when I was thinking of how I want my wedding dress to look. I had it it my mind, but couldn't figure out how to describe it to people without them looking at me like I was crazy. I just happened to search "50's Wedding Dress" and this dress was on the first website that came up. It's exactly the shape I want! I'm so excited. The photo will be perfect to take with me when I go see the potential dress maker next week.

Oh! My mother was married in 1951, and that's SO like her dress! Glamorous, and emphasises all the right curves! (In fact, breaking with tradition, her dress was day-length, and dark blue lace over white satin, which she made herself. It's a fabulous look!). Whoo hoo!

Oooh That sounds beautiful, Sara! Your mom was a rule breaker, I like it! :-D

I love this shape! It will definitely make the most of your curves!

Great looking dress. Mine was day length too, but then way back in the Middle Ages in my corner, day weddings were in day length dresses.

That's a beautiful style, Tish. Very classic. It would be lovely in any length you choose as well. The nicest thing about having a dress tailored, is that you don't have to settle for something 'almost' like your dreams. My last wedding, I wore a tea length red velvet. It raised a few eyebrows, I imagine, but I got some mileage out of the same outfit down the road for extra dressy occasions. (always the frugalista)

Hubba hubba! That is so right on for you. And me (I'd love to have that "ruching" on the bust, and cinched in waist. Ah.) I'd like that as a dress to wear on New Year's Eve (admittedly, there are no parties to which I am invited, but a girl can dream can't she?!). I'm a teensy bit jealous, but happy for you!

Perfect! That wrap-around top is very flattering &, as someone said, glamourous.

Tisha, that style of dress is beautiful and will look lovely on you. Have you chosen fabric, yet? Please share, when you do.

Thanks so much everyone! I am just so excited to find this photo. I was floating on a cloud last night. LOL I haven't chosen the fabric yet, but will get to look at them next Saturday (21st) when I meet with the potential dress maker. I know I don't want a shint satin. I tried on a couple of Taffeta gowns the other day and really loved them. So, that's what I'm leaning toward right now.

Look into peau de soire too, Tisha. I made my first wedding gown, and used it ....... it drapes awesomely because the fabric has some substance. Does not have a shiny surface, it just glows like a pearl. It even has a lot of tactile appeal, when you rub your hands over it. It's not for a novice seamstress because it's unforgiving if you ever have to take out a seam, but an experienced one would find it easy to use because it's not slippery and slidy. You're smart to let your seamstress feed into fabric choices since they'll have a good idea of how they drape, and your dress choice uses the draping for emphasis. Back when I made my first gown, polyester wasn't around in fabric shops, so I got the traditional fabric. I have not heard good things about polyester peau de soire. The tradtional fabric is very pricey now, but a dress like that would not take volumes of it and you can afford to use really good materials.

Iluv the shape of the dress you picked and it seems to me that you can carry off any kind of look. How about some silk and taffeta? Changing the subject. Lol,I think you look great and sassy in the gown in the link below. |
