We have been invited to The Denver area, mid western Wyoming and the farm ,but, it will all depend on the weather. A nasty storm is supposed to hit the area next week. We are going to thaw a turkey just in case.

No,snuggling down here and family is coming to us. I can remember many past Thanksgivings when we traveled to my grandmother's,or my parents or DH's parents and that was fun too.I hope everyone here regardless of his or her circumstances will enjoy the day one way or the other. For some of you I know it will be difficult because your lives' have changed so much this past year.

No, staying right at home. Traveling is out of the question for my husband and the sons and families are not near either.

I shall be traveling around the island of my kitchen, cooking ;-). I am well blessed, both of my children live within a tractor's drive of us and they're coming here this year. DD shall have to work, but she'll have a goodie plate saved back for her in spades. She works at a local hospital, and you expect to work your share of holidays. Been there, done that. Thanksgiving always brings very warm memories back to me. I've spent them in some very esoteric places. When my parents were alive, my mother liked to have them and sometimes we did them at their cottage on the banks of the river. We always sang 'over the river and through the woods' to chide her. Had one of them at our house with Mt. Fuji in the background when we lived near Yokohama. My little Japanese 'sister' was visiting with us then and it was her first introduction to "TOKI", she couldn't pronounce turkey. She ate so much she foundered and we thought we may end up at a doctor's office. She did recover, however. That was the year cranberries were suspect because of red dye? I can't remember the exact circumstances, but I suppose the cranberries we had came from the U.S. and it was the first case of furor over food I can remember. It was the same year some people got sick from watercress. We were so innocent then and it was a big broo-ha-ha. Now, it's too common an occurence. You are wise, Gandle, to play it by ear and have a turkey in the wings. LOL.

Not traveling very far, if at all. We may go into San Pedro (two villages over, about 4 miles away) to a restaurant. Probably won't find any turkey on the menu, but we can get a good lime chicken burrito. Two years ago we got a turkey and made dinner at home with some friends. But we had to order the turkey in advance and go across the lake to pick it up. Thanksgiving kind of sneaked up on us this year, didn't think to order ahead.

Steve gets back from a week in Orlando tonight, and tomorrow morning we (he, the dogs and I) make the 11 hour drive to my folks'. There will be pheasant hunting, family, food and fun. My sister is due to deliver her third baby in less than four years in less than a month, so I'm sure my nephews and the excitement over what's to come will be a big part of the festivities too. (My other sister just had her third late this summer.) The forecast is calling for highs in the 40s, lows in the 20s and no precipitation, so walking the prairies with an assortment of dogs in search of birds should be rather pleasant. One of my cousins will be joining us for the first time ever too, and he always makes me laugh hard. I'm looking forward to both his company... and to finally not being the least experienced hunter in the group! I am worried about Izzy though: She seems to be going lame on her rear right leg, and none of the vets we've taken her to can figure out why. We're really going easy on her exercise-wise (which frustrates her mind), but I know from experience that she ignores pain at any cost when there are birds involved, so we're really going to have to play it by ear. This whole season may be a no-go for her, and we still don't know if it's a permanent thing or not. :o( All in all though, I have a great deal to be thankful for, and I'm looking forward to celebrating with my family...

We are staying home, and preparing for the arrival of our daughter, son-in-law, and 20-month-old grandson from out of town. They'll be with us for 4 days. My parents and sister will also join us on Thanksgiving. Many years, we have spent Thanksgiving week at a time share in the mountains. But we are always glad to stay home when the kids come.

Jazz, you mentioned one of your doggies with a problem. So, it's Izzy? Do you have a University Animal Hospital anywhere near? When my family had large dogs (the Great Dane) I remember my Mama taking him to Ohio State when he had some issues the local vets were uncomfortable handling. The instructors were of course very accredited specialists. Sorry to hear about her problems. She is a fine dog.

Thanks for your concern, Suzy. Actually, both of my dogs have issues. UW-Madison is reported to be one of the best veterinary medicine programs in the country, and we recently spent several weeks and about $5K figuring out that Jaz's funny walk is a neurological issue that is only going to get worse. The diagnostic process almost killed her, as she got multiple serious infections from the muscle and nerve tissue biopsies. She started to go septic and nearly died. I won't go into details, but I was very angry about how Jaz and I were treated by the specialists by the time it was all over. This was our second very negative experience at the the U, so I'm a little hesitant to go back with Izzy. We're managing her pain and hoping it's a soft tissue injury that will heal over time. She's been pretty thoroughly examined over and tested by two vets, both of whom are pretty competent, and one of whom is VERY familiar with hunting breeds. The whole situation is frustrating, but I'm hoping that at least Izzy's issues will heal with time. She does seem to be showing some improvement.

Off to Tampa on Tuesday to celebrate with DD, weather here has been amazing for November but im sure we'll get snow soon enough, so looking forward to a bit of Florida heat. Jaz-have you ever tried glucosamine chondroitin, worked wonders for my husky, when the aches and pains and lameness set in.

We're starting to view our weekend farm in Galien, Michigan as our "home" just as much as our townhouse on the South Side of Chicago, at least when the snow is less than a foot thick. We'll drive out there Wednesday night and then on Thursday it won't be much travel to the neighboring house. But it's 600 feet down our drive to the road, and then up a steep drive to the neighbor's, and there will be a lot of vehicles there, so we may end up pulling a food-laden wagon. Otherwise things can get difficult trying to extract our pickup when it's time to go home. Our next-door neighbor in Michigan, who used to be a weekend resident like us, is now living in the country more or less full time while running in to Chicago during the week as needed to meet with his arhitecture clients or visit job sites. He'll be having a full house -- one of his brothers, one of his sisters, assorted artists and other acquaintences with and without partners, maybe 12-13 in all. My neighbor and I like one another's cooking and pretty much swap eating at each other's place on Saturday nights. For this bash, he and I will both be cooking turkey and stuffing; he wants me to do the mashed potatoes; he'll do sweet potatoes; a guest is bringing something involving Brussel sprouts and Grueyre cheese; Roberta will make our traditional cranberry sherbet. And over the weekend it developed that one of the artists, who was bringing several deserts, decided to make one of them a tres leches cake instead of pumpkin pie. My neighbor wasn't thrilled at the prospect of Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie so I volunteered to do that, too. I'm hoping there will be lots of leftover turkey. My neighbor is thinking about mole' or maybe curry to feed his guests, several of whom will be staying over for three days, and on Friday, my son will drive out to Galien, along with the Three Graces -- his wife and her two sisters. They're flying in from New Mexico and spending Thursday with his in-laws in a Chicago suburb. If too much turkey is eaten next door on Thursday, maybe we'll make pizza.

Well, across town. It's THE reason I live in Tennessee, all of my family is here. It's so great to see each other year round (and get/give help), but even better come holiday time. We make the rounds to three or four houses since we can. Everyone have happy holidays and safe travels!

Thursday's T-day will be just DH and myself. DD & SIL spend that day serving dinners for the homeless. We'll have the family's T-Day dinner on Friday; I think there are about 16 expected. 12 miles, and the weather is expected to be clear and mild :)
