Spring sure is beautiful in the South! I especially like the daffs in the periwinkle :) Is spring your favorite season? I think it was mine when I lived in TN, though I liked fall, too.

Here it seems as if spring runs right into summer - it's a huge build up of anticipation.

I got pictures today from a friend in TN whose drive crosses a creek in 3 places....she's stuck at home until the waters recede (no bridges).

I meant to comment some more on our Amelanchiers. Looking from our slider in the dinningroom we can see a continous row of them in the back woods...from the north to the east.( The back of our house faces Northeast). They are all in bloom now. The largest, and earliest, is now leafing out in the top. It is the one behind the little red barn in the other pics that I posted.)
There are more to each side of our place, but very few in the front, and they are in our immediate yard. I don't know why there is none out in the front woods....Of course it was burned off badly when the neighbor's brush fire escaped, but there were very few before that happened. The Dogwoods are the same, but there were a bunch out front before the fire....:-( They are returning.

Let me know if you all have problems opening this. My computer isn't having much of a problem. I updated to Explorer 7 and it is faster.

Yes Saucy, spring is my favorite, and fall is second. ( I HATE summer! ) I am so afraid we will suddenly go from spring to hot hot summer!

I can understand the creek problems in Tenn. We have neighbors down below us, in Possum Trot, with the same problems. Luckily we did not end up living down there. Nolon's folks owned a place down there. They had moved to Springdale before his dad passed (at 54 years of age from cancer). An aunt was living there when we were first married. One of her sons had a house wash away in a previous deluge! Nolon's uncle's pickup and livestock washed away in the same flood. That was before we moved back here.

Beautiful! Colorful - and wet! In a month's time should have some of that around here....

Marian, you surely have the spring-thing going on there, I would say that we are looking at what we had here 4 to 6 weeks ago-including the puddles ! And we could use some rain right now.It must be just beautiful when all those trees leaf out. Love the pic of Tommy bringing up the rear ! Thanks for posting, and hope you are feeling better .

So peaceful, Marian! The colors and arrangement seem just right and I love that you've put stuff in that doesn't require a ton of upkeep. Though you're not completely up to snuff, obviously your gardens don't know that :-)

Do remember the variety of daffs that Tim's friend gave you? They'd be perfect [name the spot in my yard]. LOL

Thank you for the kind comment on the colors and arrangement. As for putting in "stuff that doesn't require a ton of upkeep", I have had those things , but they didn't survive! My roses, regardless of the variety, just struggle to survive.

Woody, I wish you didn't have to wait a whole month for the beauty to come to your yard. You can do without the "wet", except for 'gentle' rains!

Kathy, none of that is "puddles"! It is all running water! Our yard is all on a very slight slope and the only puddles that remain are the potholes in our drive, and a low spot between the house and wellhouse, where I planted a Bald Cypress and a Clethra, and probably a few other minor low spots...:-)
The trees are at least 2 weeks late in leafing out. It IS quite shocking when it is all of a sudden green all around! And beautiful. I espacially love the pastel greens of spring tree leaves.

Yes, Cynthia, it is peaceful. You have reminded me of how Marie discribed Reed's fascination with the sounds of nature....I can identify with that. I love to go out and just listen to them ( and the airplanes,LOL ). It is very rare to hear annoying 'people' sounds. ( Except airplanes)
Ofcourse, when warm weather gets here, our doors and windows are open, and we can hear nature without going out.

All the water will definitely help, but our soil is so shallow it dries out very rapidly.

Yeah! The sun is out! I KNOW I will feel better today!

I think New Englanders have a very deep, special fondness for springtime. It's my favorite season, too! I love the first few days in March (the ones we never had, lol) when the sun is strong, the buds are swelling, the sap's running, and you hear the steady drip, drip, drip and watch the ice recede.

Maple blossoms are unrivalled in their delicacy and color... at least to me. I love the first warm day and the first day you can smell the damp earth.

And then the daily explosion of color... thanks for reminding me that it's on its way, Marian. Nothing finer than to stroll the grounds under heavy feline escort, either. :)

Beautiful, just beautiful Now... scoot outdoors and soak up some rays... it'll make you feel better and I'll live vicariously through your experience.

I was surprised by the differance in the 2 pics of the Chinese Coral Dafs. In the last year's pic the Lunaria,Money Plant, is in full bloom. This year they are just barely up! It must be due to colder temps this year??

Beautiful property you have there Marian. Lots of privacy and mature trees and shrubs. Love that nice patch of daffs on your right as you are headed back to the house on your walk. I just figured out that Tommy is a cat! lol When you said he walked with you and was talking, I thought...a dog. :-)

You have a flowering currant...have you ever tried making jam with them?

Pm2, my Clove Currants seldom set on many fruits. In Idaho we had the common red currents in the wild.I gathered them and made jelly.
Yes, I enjoy that daf patch. They are one plant that is (so far) untouched by any varmint.I have them all around the place.
Teehee, I thought you all knew Tommy is our neutered bob-tailed cat.
He is very vocal...has a deep voice. Trubby is the other one(neutered also). He is long-tailed, and has a very soft higher-pitched voice. He doesn't say much unless he is hungry, or wants out. Calliecat is our spayed outdoor female. She is old (17 this month), and almost deaf. She yowls really really loud!!

Marian, thanks for the tour. It's nice that you get to have the spring beauty before the deer take such a toll. I wish they would leave the rest of your things alone so we could see it all too.
I see how bad your driveway washes out. Looks like it needs a couple of berms in it. Yes I know it ain't goona happen though. LOL . We have a new washout in our drive too from all the rain.
Anyway I like what you have accomplished with your yard. I especialy like that you have so many shrubs that bloom together. Norma

Beautiful, Marian! And this is the drive that was just washed out again? I'm always surprised to find a cat following me down the street and have to rush back and put 'em in the house. Only country cats like Tommy can do that!

Beautiful Marian! We are still a ways from having any forsythia blooming. The daffs are just starting to bud up but today is finally in the high 60's so I'm thinking things will start popping soon.

Yes, Denise. This is our driveway, it has been damaged FOUR times already, this spring. Last night was the worse for the upper part where it goes out on the county road. I called the office of the county judge this time, for assistance. I asked them to check out out lower driveway, to evaluate what it will cost to repair it. ( It is not in their 'rules' to fix private roads, but they will if payed.It is a very poor county. )

The water running across our yard early this morning was lots deeper than before. W recieved 4 and 1/4th inches during last night ! I am sure this is the wettest spring we have had in the 23 years we that have lived here in this house. I hate to complain ...I am afraid a long dry period will probably follow..... ( Thank God our roof no longer leaks! )
