Friday at the Farm - clematis photos and more

gardenbug

Went for a walk after dinner with the mosquitoes and took some clematis photos. Things were dry....

This is a view of the vegetable garden surrounded by clematis. There is an arbor down the central path as well. Not very many vegetables!

Oh my goodness!! That vegetable (clematis!) garden is drop-dead gorgeous!

How much shade is the Elvan clematis in? Shade I've got lots of, so that might be one I should consider...? What pink one would you recommend for here? I supposedly planted Comtesse do Bouchard and Hagley Hybrid on the swag but no pinks have shown up yet - except an Inspiration that seems to want to be a groundcover. So I think I need to replant some pinks - suggestions?/pictures?

I'd wait to see what appears next spring. REALLY!

Try for a Comtesse de Bouchaud. That's the #1 I'd suggest for you.
I like my Hagelby Pink. (Gardenimport)
    Abundance is a brighter pink.
    Inspiration is not a climber.
I don't think you'll find an Elvan. Mine just happens to be in shade, nothing special about that.

I am Lady Q & Minuet are edged in pink if you like that look.
    :)

Interloping to say you guys have the best pictures on the forum. The veggie garden looks like my dream veggie garden. Love the fence and clematis- would love to see the veggies too as I've been obsessed with ornamentals with vegetables.

The veggies are not mixed with the flowers...carrots and chard in rows, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes...and a few herbs. The rest are clematis. (blush!)

cheleinri - feel free to join in the conversation... If you've been lurking awhile, you'll have noticed that 'the Idylls' operates a bit differently than what you see on most of the rest of the forums. While we do post individual threads - usually when we want to share a lot of pictures - the majority of the threads are an on-going conversation that has been going on for years. If you want to join in, introduce yourself....

Wow, it's looking stunning, 'bug -- lots of "new" combos I don't recall seeing before - the luxury of large real estate, LOL... if only one had hired help to go with it, right? Thanks for sharing. It's soo gorgeous.

And absolutely, we're always open for new folks to join our free flowing conversations...

    Thanks folks!

Woody, you might like Princess Diana or Marmori if you find one of them.

Loving it, clemmie addict that I am. Fudo really rings my chimes.

Thanks, as always, for the fabu virtual tour!

gb - ooh I like that Marmori! When would I find that?!

It is short...and out of fashion, so not sure where you'd come across it. Just keep your eyes open. I think Michelle has one.

GI just sent their catalog and they have Meinie Belle which I want...but it turns out that they have sold out already!!! Grrrr.

Do you have Duchess of Albany?

Nope - I don't have that one - I'm not entirely sure I like the bell shaped ones as much as the open ones, but I'll think about that one. It should be easier to find I think because I do remember seeing the name before.

Well, gb, the clematis look beautiful around the veggies.

Thanks for the invitation Woody, I've lurked in the Idylls for years and I see what a nice group you have going. I'm pretty reserved by nature and I feel like my garden has a way to go yet to be able to share much. Maybe one of these days I will show up though.

Gardenbug, Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos of clematis! I can across this thread when doing a search for Buckland Beauty.
