| I finally figured out how to work my daughters digital camera so I figured I'd try to post some photos of my gardens. Wish I had taken them a week or so ago when the Salvia "May Night" and dianthus "Bath's Pink" were in full bloom. but here goes.
This is my back grass bed, taken from the neighbors yard. The part at the top is new this year and really needs to fill in.
The upper portion from straight on. Antone have any suggestions ?
Miscanthus "gracillimus" and Happy Returns Daylily
Small hosta bed
Mondara "Jacob Cline" makes such a bold statement.
And finally....smokey checking my watering technique.
Hope you enjoy ! Blackie |

| Everything is so beautiful and lush. A suggestion for under the Maple...Blue Oak Grass or Hakone Grass. You're great with grasses, so those will fit your theme. |
|
| for some reason, when i posted this al of the photos could be seen. Not I'm only seeing a few myself. Not sure what the problem is but here's a link to all the photos in my gallery. Feel free to check it out ! Blackie |

| I love Whirling Butterflies too...it's very well named when the wind is blowing. Your grasses are great. I like fall bloomers with them..sedums, asters, goldenrod, & caryopteris for example. Smokey is gorgeous. |

| What beautiful gardens! Your pictures all came through, and I'm looking at this site late on July 9. (Was is Garden Web that told you about the trial period? I thought it was free all the time) Anyway, in Photo 2, it looks like you have a decent amount of shade, so I'd suggest some more hostas. (LOVE the hostas!) Try some really big ones, such as Frances Williams or Paradigm. Paul's Glory is also really nice. To brighten the shade a bit, you might want to go with Sunpower - very large and in the yellow tones. Congratulations on all your hard work! |

| blackie57, you're hooked! Those digital cameras are the best thing for gardeners ever. If you all are just getting the little square box with the colored symbols in it, try right clicking it and clicking show picture. I always just get the first pic and then those symbols. Works for me. I love your grasses. I am just getting interested in them and what I have missed all these years! I have a question. What are the hedge plants (all dark green) behind the grasses? gld |
|
| The hedge behind the grasses is a mixture of various kinds but the main bush si forsythia. They turn a beautiful yellow in the springtime, but a incredibly fast growers. Two years ago those bushes were trimmed down to around 4 feet or less tall. They now stand almost 7 feet. I usually have to go back behind the grasses and trim them to they do not interfere with the growth of the grasses. Go for the grasses, you'll love them !!! Blackie |

| Wow, Blackie-you're a natural with that camera! I love grasses-what's that with the yellow flowers at the front of the hedge bed? That bed looks like a natural to fill in with some spring bulbs, especially that would play off the yellow of the forsythia. Your monarda looks great. I've tried a few, but they just don't seem happy in my garden. Nice maple! How much sun does that area get? I'm a fan of Heuchera 'Amber Waves'. Not everyone likes it, but the colors would be great with the maple leaves. The backside of the heuchera leaves is a lighter shade than that of the leaves on your tree. That shot of Smokey ought to be on a cat calendar! Brenda PS-the first set of pictures opened just fine for me...and I've got slow dial-up and usually have trouble with pics loading-go figure! |
|
| Blackie, nice pictures. I could see all of them in the original post, but they took a while to load and I have cable internet. I love the daylily with the grasses. Brenda, I was thinking of heuchera under that maple too! -Wendy |
|
| Heuchera huh ? I never thught of that, but I'm definately gunna give it a try ! that bed gets sun from early afternoon on so I believe the heuchera would work out just fine, no ? flowerluvr, the yellow plant next ot the grasses in the new bed photo are Happy Returns daylily. Great rebloomer ! Blackie |
