wow it looks so soft. I love the color and that bee is fantastic. Do you know the name of it? I've wanted to try to grow these for years.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Karyn! Sorry, I don't know the name. Quite a few years ago a friend moved to Maine and brought the delphinium to me as a small plant. All I can tell you is that it's very tall and has surprised me by doing so well even after all these years, including a period when the whole garden was rather neglected.

It's not even staked at the moment. I think it's being held up by volunteer phlox. :-)

Hi Susan,

Glad to hear it's doing well and phlox are multi-purpose. I'll keep that in mind. Their stalks are quite sturdy. Again great picture you should have it framed. If I had a blue room in my house I would ask for a copy of it....

MMMMM...Maine can you say lob-staaaa'.....Maine is 1 hour away and we go quite often for seafood.

Hi Susan,

Well your delphinium has won me over and I think I have found it. Here is a link, what do you think? It's about mid way down the page.

"Delphinium
Delphinium elatum. "Bee larkspur" is a Victorian name for this tall and long-lived perennial plant. Deep blue and purple blooms on 4’ to 5’ stems, starting in the second year, make delphinium perfect for the background of your perennial bed. A true grandmother’s garden flower. "

Yes, that's it. I don't know if mine had a name other than delphinium, but it looks just like the picture. And it's about 5' tall.

I hope you'll grow some. And then I hope you'll take a picture.

Speaking of which, I took a picture of the whole plant yesterday. I'll go get it out of the camera and into this thread right now.

Well, it's not a great photo. It isn't even a good photo. I try to avoid shooting in bright sun. I think this was at the end of the day, so I thought I could get away with it. But it'll give you an idea of the bigger picture, so to speak. I think the bent-over tip was the result of the violent hailstorm we had earlier this week.

Those are so pretty & that is a great photo. I'm placing an order for these in the spring, they are on my must have list.

Thanks
