Found this plant in my backyard abutted conversation wetland. It was hidden in alot of ferns in shady area with moist soil. Is this a dianthus? I looked at this website.

It very well could be. Also look at the Sweet William.
I have Sweet William and my neighbor swears it is dianthus.
I do not know if they are the same but I am growing some dianthus now in a flat. Even small they resemble each other alot. I know this doesnt answer your question or mine. Hence, I decided to grow both to see the difference.

Sweet william is a dianthus. But they are usually sold as annuals, I think they are acutally biennials, but im not sure. sweet william smells really good though!
