I planted this last year and it made a dense, bold, silvery foliaged plant. This year it is a little more sprawly, but I have the added interest of the purple to maroon tinted artichoke like "fruit" and the blue blooms that are just starting as seen in my other pic.

Nice!! Where did you find a cardoon? They've got some in the local heirloom garden, and I've coveted one!

I think you mostly grow cardoon from seed. Italian/specialty vegetable suppliers often sell seed.... but these are the kind best used for eating. Some flower seed places sell seed. Pinetree garden (has flowers and vegetables) sells some. Although their service lately has been pretty slow:
