See how the whole plants are wilting? I can't imagine what is wrong. A healthy plant one day, a wilting, saggy plant the next. Any ideas?
thanks in advance

Oh dear, Dee. That is a very sad plant indeed. Sometimes I find varmint tunnels in the rootzone of plants that are doing poorly. Have you checked that angle? Could there have been some leftover chemical left there that is infiltrating the roots? Or if moved recently, did you water it in well so it's well entrenched in it's new hole? -- says she who just moved a sad coneflower and didn't water well enough, now it's even sadder : ( |

| It hasn't been moved, and others in other beds are doing the same thing. They did it last year too. I just can't imagine what is going on. I wonder if my male dog could have anything to do with this?? |

| Could be verticillium wilt, or male dog syndrome. It looks like there are all sorts of weeds in that bed. Important to keep your beds free of weeds, as weeds can harbor or host diseases and pests which transmit diseases. |

| Cynthia, you are sooo right. That bed is full of weeds and of all things...catnip. The catnip is as tall as the echinacea and some of it is wilting too. Of course they would never die out completely. It's terribly hot here right now, so I can't go out and weed. Once the sun goes under the mosquitos come out in full force. I do need to get that bed weeded though. Thanks for pointing that out to me. |
I cleaned it up!

I worked on this last night until the mosquitos drove me in. I got it mostly done. I noticed at the base of the stalks I cut off new leaves are starting to grow. I planted this patch of coneflowers last summer.
