| Hi. I wanted to share some pictures from our new garden. I showed you the pictures of us digging the new beds last July and planting stuff I moved from the old garden. There are only two plants that didn't survive the winter and they were both new plants from a local nursery. Everything I moved made it.

| Please ID the beautiful flowering plant in 3rd picture with the white daisies. Is it a shrub or a vine on a support? Also, what is the plant in the last photo? You have a beautiful view of the lake too. EP |

Thanks enchantedplace. The plant you're asking about is clematis Purpurea Plena Elegans. I have it growing up a shephard's hook. It's a type 3 clematis so I can cut it to a foot tall and it will grow and flower that much in a season. Some people don't care for the smaller flowered viticellas, but I love them. Especially this one. Jackie |

| Oh I remember this garden, Jackie, and the beautiful lake backdrop, although it looks like an ocean. What a perfect spot. Your gardens are coming along nicely-they look well established for only a year old. Do you ever just sit and anjoy the view? Sue |

| How incredibly stunning Jackie! Pictures and plant compositions are all amazing as usual. Good to see that it doesn't take long. I have to admit, my favorite picture is the first one. Such a wonderful strong composition. BTW, what is the blue Hydrangea (macrophylla type I presume)? Does this indicate you have acid soil on this part of Lake Erie? And I guess you must be in the snow belt here on the S. side of Lake Erie too, right? Oh well, great for keeping those tender plants protected. So aren't you really a pretty solid zone 6? |

LoL Susan- see the bench in the first picture? That's for me. I LOVE sitting there : ) And it's really cool at night. I'm an astronomy buff and when I saw the Northern Lights this spring (one in a million chance) my life was complete! David thank you so much. I hope you bring a part of all of your plants with you. You won't regret it. Believe it or not the blue hydrangea is one I saw in the supermarket three years ago and decided to try outside. With the cold winds off the Lake I was sure I'd get leaves and no flowers. It was like a miracle to me when they started blooming! The soil here is really alkaline so I'm thinking it will continue to go more and more to the purple the longer I have it. I must be zone 6, or the humidity from the Lake really makes a big difference. There is a gentleman on the rose forum who lives in New York and can't believe me when I tell him what survives with no protection here. I know it's not my skill as a gardener. It must be the Lake. | Oh, Jackie, what wonderful pictures and all of it with the lake as a backdrop. There is little so relaxing to me as being near the water... I can almost imagine sitting right there in your garden, feeling every bit of tension flowing out. 8*) |

Stacey that Hosta is called "June" and I love it. It's the very last hosta to go in the fall. Last year it looked that good in late October! Hi Amy. Yep I've been waiting my whole life for this yard. The only time it's a little hard is in the winter when the wind blows so hard it almost knocks you down, or it rips the door out of your hands and pulls it off it's hinges! I'll take it though : ) |

| Thanks, Jackie. I'd never seen a photo of it from that angle, nor grown it myself, so I didn't recognize it. |

| Your gardens are beautiful. I only hope as mine matures and I learn more about gardening I can accomplish what you have. I want to become a Master Gardener and was going to start classes but told a friend I would wait for her to retire next year so we can do it together. What else is planted with the hostas? I have an area under my trees that I want to have a shade garden and so far just have some ferns and a gardenia. What is the last flower, the purple spikey one? Love it. Did you have to train or tie the clematis to climb up the gardeners pole or does it do it by itself. Enjoy! |

Cflower I'm sorry I didn't answer you. This forum didn't have any new posts for a long time and I got out of the habit of checking it. Good luck on the Master Gardener program Under the Japanese Maple I have hosta June, Japanese Painted Ferns, Variegated Solomon's Seal, Trycirtus Hirta, a clematis hiding in the back and White Nancy lamium. The last photo is Allium Christophii, Sandra thank you. That's a cutleaf Japanese Maple. |
