First blooming for me from plants I raised from seed. These flowers never open, but are one of my favorite wildflowers.

Very Nice! Do they flower the same time as tulips? Looks like a wonderful shade lover. Were they easy from seed? They have been on my wants list for awhile. Now I really want some! LOL. Happy Gardening! Boop

Thanks. No, they're blooming now and due require full sun. They are a bit tricky from seed. Sow at 18-22ºC (64-71ºF) for 2-4 wks, move to -4 to +4ºC (24-39ºF) for 4-6 wks, move to 5-12ºC (41-53ºF) for germination cover thin. Germination for this species is poor and there is usually a high mortality rate for the seedlings that do germinate.

Those are just beautiful. I've never seen them before. I wonder how they pollinate if they never open. Thanks for sharing A

A I read that bumblebees may be able to open the flowers and pollinate them. Even though the top of the flower is closed, you can pry it open with a lot of effort. I've tried, but just end up tearing the flower to pieces. K
