I love this time of year and I am getting into specimen photography. You won’t see plantings, but single plants and small groupings because that’s what I am focusing on photographing right now.
This is early October in zone 4

You caught me by surprise too on the delphinium - yes thats what they are -but they are done in June here in zone 5, and now the aconitum are blooming. HOw do you get a delph to bloom in Oct?

Hi phyl345- the monkshood is in a full sun site bit is very sheltered.

alyrics- My climate is very brutal on pacific hybrid delphiniums. They are battered by heat and extreme cold and snowless winters- it takes them the most of the spring season just to get up the energy to come up in the spring, about when the heat is starting. They are delayed by the heat until the cool temperatures of fall come to bloom. They are not what I would call healthy. Take a look at the leaves of this plant from last month –
Its leaves are very unhealthy.

They need this long to get the energy to bloom.
