| Can you give me the names of a few places that send decent size perennial roots in the mail. I have ordered from a few and are never satisfied with the size or quality of the plants.
Thanks for your suggestions. Mike |

| The best place to purchase plants is your local independent nursery... That said, I know ForestFarm sends out larger plants - but keep in mind that larger plants = higher shipping costs, yet another reason to frequent your independent (because you can buy some big beauties for often not a whole heck of a lot more $$$ than mail order and often ends up being less $$$ after you factor in those darn shipping costs). |

| "decent size perennial roots"...are you then looking for bare root plants? For things readily available, not rare or brand new to the trade, I shop nurseries for best value. Keep in mind that it's possible to buy things that could be divided when getting them home to install in the ground, stretching your shopping dollar that way. You can see for yourself how vigorous the plants are, and support your local community at the same time. There are several places I can recommend from experience for those things more difficult to locate you may not want to wait on to be more widely available, but none come to mind that ship bare root, including Forest Farm. |

| Recommendations: 1) A good local nursery. 2) A good regional nursery close enough to get there, load up and get back within a day. 3) A good mail-order seed house like J.L. Hudson and Chiltern's. Raise your own perennials from seed, save a bundle and have many more choices than a mail-order plant list could provide. 4) For mail-order nurseries that regularly satisfy customers, consult the Gard_n W_tchdog website for their top 30 list. Based on my experience, you'd rarely go wrong with any of those businesses. |

| It sounds like the local nursery is the way to go, by your responses. That is what I will do, I have just not been satified with the small plants that are sent through the mail. Whether its a plant or a root stock they are usually very small. I have to say though, that most everything I get does survive to bloom but it takes a couple of seasons to get there. Thanks Again for your suggestions. Mike |

| Last year I wanted certain plant.Found just just 1 plant. And wanted 6. So I got it from Blue-Stone. Even with shipping was cheaper. And such nice plants. Packed extra well. Just watered and bloomed in 6 weeks. Got list made out for them again. |

| Depending on what you are looking for...Hallson sends great plants and I have gotten good size at a reasonable price from Santa Rosa Gardens. But I agree with others if you can try to search locally you will not do better with any online company that I have dealt with. |
